Beware of Wine Snobs

Recently my wife and I were at a wine shop in North Vancouver at Park and Tilford mall. It was a cozy small independent store with some exclusive $1000 bottles of red wine from France.

As we perused the store we noticed the owner did not pay us much attention because we were not dressed up to his standards. We weren't dressed messy or shabby, just casual.

What the owner didn't realize was that we probably knew more about what goes into making wine than he does. You see we actually make it, and we make really good wine!

We bought a $14 wine and high tailed it out of there. The owners loss is that we won't be back. Even though we only bought a $14 bottle of wine this type of sale is what keeps wine shops afloat. How many $1000 bottles of wine does he really sell? Not many I'm sure.

Unfortunately snobs exist, especially in the field of wine. Don't let these ignorant people discourage you. If I put my Beaujolais in one of his fancy over priced wine bottles, do you think he could tell the difference? I doubt he could tell it was home made, in fact he'd sing it's praises.

Wine Snobs are fools at best. Be someone who knows what tastes great to you. If it's a cheap $8 bottle or if it's a $60 bottle just so long it's one you enjoy drinking. If wine shop proprietors don't give respect then drop them. There are many private and government liquor stores out there to chose from.

Better yet make your own wine and bypass the wine snobs in the stores!
