Filtration is generally not necessary with wine kits. The manufacturers have designed the wine kits to produce clear wine in the 4 to 8 week kit. But if you want your wine to have the highest level of clarity go ahead and filter it.
Home grade wine filters are not so aggressive that they will strip the wine of any of its flavour. I personally have never filtered my wines and they have turned out clear.
